Hey there, Phoenix, Tucson, and Southern Arizona! Your friendly Northwest Exterminating service team is here with top-tier pest control solutions using Anticimex SMART technologies. We’ve got the science-backed strategies you need to keep your home or business pest-free in Southern Arizona.

Overview Of Pest Control Needs In Southern Arizona

The desert climate in Southern Arizona presents a unique challenge for property owners. A hot, dry climate provides the perfect ecosystem for a variety of insects and rodents. And the pests that don’t particularly care for our dry climate… well, they just make their way inside to find suitable conditions and moisture that is lacking outside.

Regardless of the season, weather conditions, and other factors that influence pest activity, ongoing pest control services is very much needed here in Southern Arizona. At Northwest Exterminating, we understand the pest pressures in our region and offer effective pest solutions that target pests that cause trouble here.

Common Pests In Southern Arizona

We have a surprising variety of pests in our Phoenix, Tucson, and Southern Arizona service areas. Some are uniquely troublesome for us, while others are common and resilient pests nationwide.

Scorpions

We have several scorpion species, including the Arizona bark scorpion, desert hairy scorpion, and striped tail scorpion. Like their arachnid cousins, scorpions can climb walls and other rough-textured surfaces. They cannot scale glass or other smooth surfaces.

Although scorpions can bite, their mouthparts are too small to inflict damage, at least to people. When it comes to scorpions, it's their tails you have to watch out for. These pests can use their tails to sting and deter threats; if you are on the receiving end, you may feel pain. What's more, the tail is where the venom is stored. Unless you have an allergy, stings are not usually a serious health threat. The exception being the Arizona bark scorpion, which is quite venomous.

Bees & Wasps

Arizona is home to various stinging insects, one of the most notable being the Africanized honey bee. Also known as the killer bee, this aggressive bee species poses a significant stinging hazard for residents, particularly when they swarm. Other stinging insects to watch out for in Phoenix, Tucson, and Southern Arizona include the paper wasp, cicada killer wasp, and mud dauber

Termites

In Southern Arizona, we have two kinds of termites: subterranean and drywood termites.

While both termites are attracted to wood, they have specific preferences. Subterranean termites live in colonies underground and must have soil nearby. They tend to infest any wood that is in contact with the ground and travel to and from their underground colonies in mud tubes that prevent them from being exposed to air and elements that dry them out. Other signs of subterranean termites include swarms, discarded wings, hollow sound wood when knocked on, sagging floors and ceilings, and damaged wood.

Drywood termites, other other hand, seek out dry woods. They can be hard to detect because they live entirely in the wood they eat. Signs of drywood termites include swarms, bubbling or peeling paint, woods that sounds hollow when tapped, and little mounds of fecal pellets pushed out through small holes.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Practices

We apply the science of Integrated Pest Management to desert environments. Our distinct approach works to manage the unique pest pressures we deal with in Southern Arizona.

  • We apply professional-grade materials to seal gaps under metal flashing, garage doors, and exterior doors.
  • We seal around openings where A.C. lines enter structures and along J-trim.
  • We consider pest attractants, such as unharvested or fallen fruit, limbs near rooflines, shaded areas underneath prickly pear cactus and low-lying vegetation, and seeds that fall from bird feeders.
  • We help you protect weep holes, louver vents, and gable vents.
  • We provide treatments that reduce pest populations, eliminate colonies, and deter pest entry.

Integrated Pest Management involves the application of many control methods to achieve the best sustainable pest management solution with the fewest control materials.
